Hogwarts Legacyis the latest game by Avalanche Software, the studio behindDisney Infinityand other movie based games prior to being acquired by Warner Bros in 2017. From the details known by fans so far,Hogwarts Legacyappears to be an action-RPG, heavily based on the Wizarding World, the setting inspired by J.K. Rowling’sHarry Potterbooks.Hogwarts Legacyis one of a few big titles that fans areexpecting from WB Games in 2022, though at times it was questioned whether the release date of the game would meet its 2022 deadline.
With leakers claiming that the release date would be delayed, while official art books and statements from WB Games saying the opposite, many fans were anticipating a reveal from the game to put their delay worries at rest. In a recent State of Play, Sony did more than justrevealHogwarts Legacy’srelease date, as the company also showed off fourteen minutes of new gameplay, alongside an interview with the developers. While speaking about the upcoming title, the team at Avalanche also revealed some interesting concept art forHogwarts Legacy.

There were of course pieces of concept art depicting the scenes andplaces people know from theHarry Pottermoviesand books. Many fans have seen Hogsmeade, Platform 9 3/4, the Forbidden Forest, and other iconic locations, though Game Director Alan Tew teased information about the spaces beyond whatHarry Potterfans are already familiar with. “When it comes to the open-world,” Tew said. “We just knew it wasn’t going to be enough to stare out of the windows of Hogwarts and wonder what was beyond.”
In speaking on how the open-world will interact with the gameplay, Tew went onto say that “we’re creating a wide pallette of opportunities and ways to explore the world.” This means more than just being able to travel the open plains, hidden caverns and even volcano-like areas around Hogwarts by foot or by broomstick. According to Avalanche, who the player is inHogwarts Legacywill matter as much to the story as what they do.
Of course, broom flights were shown off in the recently revealed gameplay trailer, along with plenty more for fans to get excited about inHogwarts Legacy. As a fifth-year student, the player will be able to get right into the action, shown off by the combat and dueling gameplay. There’s also thecharacter creator inHogwarts Legacy, meaning fans can either live out their own dream or make their favorite character from the books and movies.
Hogwarts Legacyis currently scheduled to release in 2022’s holiday season for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
