In addition to being the first game set in the franchise in over a decade,Hellboy Web of Wyrdalso happens to feature one of the final performances from legendary and prolific actor Lance Reddick. Having passed away in March of this year, Reddick was a singular talent whose on-screen performances and voice work were instantly recognizable, with Reddick being most well-known for his live-action roles in HBO’sThe Wireand theJohn Wickfilms, as well as his performance as Commander Zavala inDestiny.Hellboy Web of Wyrdis a posthumous performance of Reddick, with the actor performing the role of the titular hero.
Reddick’s passing came as a shock to fans of both his live-action and voice work as an actor. One of the most hard-hit by Reddick’s passing is theDestiny 2community, who had been hearing Reddick’s talents as Commander Zavala for nearly a decade. Bungie itself provided fans with a fitting tribute to the late actor, withtheDestiny 2communitymore than willing to participate and celebrate his legacy. In a recent Game Rant interview,HellboyWeb of Wyrd’s developers share a sentiment common among those who worked with Reddick, expressing that having his talents in the game is an incredible honor and provides a lasting legacy for the game.

Reddick joins an illustrious group of actors that have portrayed Mignola’s iconic hero, with the live-action versions ofHellboy having been played by Ron Perlmanand David Harbour, with Perlman providing the voice work for the character in 2008’sHellboy: The Science of Evil.That doesn’t mean there wasn’t room for Reddick, however, and Upstream Arcade was glad to have him in its games. Because of his distinctive voice and timbre, Upstream Arcade was thrilled to have the actor provide his talents to the identity of Hellboy and reflected on what he brought not just to the role, but the joy he brought the dedicated studio.
Lance was an absolute pleasure to work with - sitting in on his recording sessions was a privilege to be part of. To see the enthusiasm and energy he applied to the role gave us all a real buzz, and we are very proud to have Lance be the voice of our Hellboy.
Upstream Arcade echoes a sentiment shared among everyone who had the chance to work with Reddick, that he was nothing short of a pleasure and a delight, and his passing was a blow to those closest to him, to the work he brought his fans, and obviously his closest loved ones. Ultimately,Hellboy Web of Wyrdnow joins a long list of titles that the late actor has left a lasting mark on. In addition to his work in theDestinyseries, Reddick has provided both voice work and motion capture toQuantum Break,Horizon Zero Dawn,Horizon Forbidden West, andPayday 2.
The actor has also appeared either in voice or on-screen in television adaptations of video game properties likeNetflix’sCastlevaniaandResident Evilseries, and he was even known as a bit of a gamer himself. Playing Hellboy provides an incredible opportunity for any actor to explore the character’s complexity and emotional depth, and it’s yet another lovely performance by the industry legend.
