Summary

Meta has reportedly confirmed that it’s still working to shipGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasfor its Quest VR headset.GTA: San Andreasis one of the most popular entries in the critically acclaimed series and, understandably, has a lot of fans looking forward to its VR port.

Back in 2021, theGTA: San AndreasVR version was announced to be in development for Meta Quest 2 (formerly, Oculus Quest 2). It marked the second time that developer Rockstar Games was venturing into VR since 2018’sLA Noire: The VR Case Files. However, over the past few years, there have been no new updates about the title, casting doubt over the project. Last October, Meta’sGTA: San Andreasstatus update, or a lack thereof, further led some fans to worry about the VR game’s chances of release.

In an update forGTAfans, Meta has reportedly stated that the devs are still “working” on bringingGTA: San Andreasto VR, even though there’s no word on its release date yet. As spotted by GTA Series Videos, the Mark Zuckerberg-led company gave this confirmation while replying to one of the comments on YouTube. Replying to the source’s tweet, some fans expressed their views on the surprise statement. A user expressed that experiencing the memorable Wrong Side of the Tracks mission in VR format would be “quite interesting.” Another user speculated thatSan Andreasfor VR may roll out in 2024, saying “20th anniversary release is my guess.” A few users also said that they forgot that the VR game was even in development in the first place.

GTA San Andreas VR Port Acknowledgment is a Big Boost

Although it may not seem like enough, the small update from Meta is still significant for a title that wasoriginally targeting launch on Quest 2devices, the predecessor of the tech giant’s latest VR offering, Meta Quest 3. As the devs haven’t revealed any major details or shown the game in any form yet, it may be safe to say that the project is still somewhat early in development. So, any potential release date forGTA: San AndreasVR port could be a long time away.

Since there’s no concrete information about whenGTA: San Andreaswill come to VR, Rockstar Games-parentTake Two’s statement about more titles following suitlooks like a distant dream for now. Hopefully, a positive launch for the VR port of San Andreas will turn things around and stir up the discussion about bringing more popular IPs into the VR gaming picture.
