God of War Ragnarokfeatures plenty of unique areas for players to explore, but none are quite as intriguing as the Vanaheim Crater. Unlocked by completing the Scent of Survival favor after finishingthe game’s thirteenth chapter, this large and diverse area serves almost as a realm of its very own, with several unique explorable areas down in the crater’s depths.

One of these areas is called The Sinkholes, and, as well as dragons, Travellers, and all manner of poisonous plants, it’s home to two of the game’s 35 Nornir Chests. As is often the case withGod of War Ragnarok, finding the chests is actually relatively straightforward, though figuring out how to unlock them and claim the treasure inside may leave some players scratching their heads.
The Sinkholes Nornir Chest #1
In order to access The Sinkholes, players will need to slide down a rope to the east of the Plains area. As they’re doing so, they may notice one of the torches needed to open the chest on their right, but shouldn’t worry about this for now. Instead, they should wait until they’ve landed and then double back in the direction that they just came, where they’ll find the first SinkholesNornir Cheston their right.
As indicated by the unlit torch on the way down, opening this chest will require players to ignite three torches, the first of which can be found by carrying on past the chest and then looking through the large hole in the nearby rock wall. After lighting it with Sigil Arrows and theBlades of Chaos, players should double back toward the place where they first landed after the rope slide, being sure to keep an eye out for the second torch near a pool of water on their left as they do.

With two torches lit, players will now need to light the torch at the top of the cliff. It can be done before sliding down the rope, but it’s much easier to climb up the rocks near the Nornir Chest and tackle it from the halfway point. It can still be a little tricky even then though, with players needing to use carefully placed Sigil Arrows and the Blades of Chaos to get it lit. For those unaware, firing threeSigil Arrowsat the exact same spot will increase the blast radius, which should make lighting the third torch a bit less challenging.
With all three torches now lit, players can return to the Nornir Chest and crack it open. What’s inside will depend on how many chests they’ve opened up to this point. If it’s more than 30, the chest will contain something fairly mundane such as Hacksilver orShattered Runes. If they’ve opened fewer than 30 though, odd-numbered chests will grant players an Idunn Apple while even-numbered chests will contain a Horn of Blood Mead.

The Sinkholes Nornir Chest #2
In order to reach the second Sinkholes Nornir Chest, players will first need to head tothe Jungle area of the craterand complete the Return of the River favor. Doing so will raise the water level, allowing them to access more of the crater, including the area with the second chest. Players should then track the Burning Skies favor as they’ll find the chest just before the spot where they fight the Ash Tyrant dragon.
It’s worth noting here that if players fought the Untamed Fury mini-boss near the entrance to the Sinkholes they may need to battle it again before being able to get to work opening the chest. Thankfully, however, the fight should be a lot easier this time around as players are no longer surrounded by poisonous players that are also trying to murder them.

In order to open the chest, players will need touse the Draupnir spearto destroy three rune statues simultaneously. The first of these statues can be found halfway up the broken pillar that’s in the corner on the left just past the chest. Turning around, players will find the second statue on top of another stone pillar next to the chain that leads down to the boat dock. The final statue is on a mound of dirt near the spot where players first dropped down into the area.
Rather than igniting the spears straight away, players should wait until after they’ve thrown one at all three statues. Once they have, they can press the Triangle button to detonate the spears; destroying the statues and breaking the seal on the chest in the process. As with all of theother Nornir Chests inGod of War Ragnarok, what players will find inside will depend on how many chests they’ve opened up to this point, with Idunn Apples and Horns of Blood Mead being the main rewards for those who’ve opened up fewer than thirty.

God of War Ragnarokis available now for PS4 and PS5.
