From being a source of monsters duringthe Archon Warto the birthplace of many of the crucial players in Liyue, there are too many interesting pieces of lore about the Chasm to count. Yet, despite the region’s popularity, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the Chasm — here are a few of the most important things to know about the Chasm inGenshin Impact.
The Chasm was releasedonMarch 30th, 2022, as a part of version 2.6.

5The Chasm is Located in Liyue
The Chasm is a region located to the very west of Liyue, likely bordering the nation and its nearest neighbor. Thecavernous mining regionoffers rocky drops and steep climbs for players to struggle through — the Chasm is divided between an underground and above-ground portion.
Given where the Chasm is located in Liyue, manyGenshin Impactfans theorize just what is located on the western side of the Chasm. The most prominent theory says that the Chasm is located between Sumeru and Liyue, and therefore, could be the route that the Traveler will use to reach the next nation after Inazuma. Should this be true, the addition of the region in version 2.6 may pave the way to the game’s next phase.

4The Chasm is Closed
An important mining region, the Chasm has long been a major source of the minerals sold in Liyue Harbor and broad. Yet, despite its vital importance to the economy of Teyvat as a whole, the Chasm was mysteriously closed down prior to the beginning ofGenshin Impact. There have been plenty of different theories for why the Chasm closed prior to its release, and how the closure will impact the flow of the game.

As of version 2.6, the reason is evident, being explained in quests found in the region: the Chasm was closed for the safety of mineworkers in the area recently due to a wild series of incidents and accidents after a shift deep underground.
3The Chasm Has a Lot of Liyue Specialties
The Chasm is best-known as being Liyue’s best source of stones and ores. Of course, this also means thatGenshin Impactfans will want to visit the sub-region when they are running low on ore-basedlocal specialties in Liyue.
The Chasm hosts a hefty supply of Cor Lapis and Noctilucous Jade, as well as flower specialties like Qingxin and Violetgrass. This makes the Chasm a must-visit region for players looking to ascend characters like Keqing, Zhongli, and Beidou.

2The Chasm And The Cataclysm
Interestingly enough, the Chasm has a very important influence on nearly every event in Liyue. Most prominently, during the Cataclysm 500 years before the game’s start (during whichthe Traveler’s Siblingstarted their journey), the Chasm saw a massive number of monsters appear from its depths. In response, Morax issued an order for the Millileth to contain the monsters.
However, all was ineffective, aside from a mysterious unnamed Yaksha, who quelled the incident. The occurrence caused the Yaksha to perish, being the third Yaksha to do so. Of the existing Yaksha inGenshin Impact, this one is believed to be either the Electro or the Geo Yaksha, though the phrasing of the Electro Yaksha’s death leads fans to believe that it was them.

1Azhdaha Is From The Chasm
Like the god who gave him sight, Azhdaha is a creature that has a very long history inGenshin Impact’slore. Though he may be aweekly boss in Nantianmennow, Azhdaha’s history actually began in the mineral-rich region of the Chasm.
The Chasm is where Azhdaha was born, and he’s one of the oldest Vishaps inGenshin Impact.According to the legends of Liyue, the Chasm is also the region where Morax and Azhdaha fought. It would not be until Azhdaha’s sealing that Liyue’s miners would return to the Chasm — that is, of course, until its closure in recent years.
Genshin Impactis available on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is currently under development.
