In a recent interview with IGN, Newell was asked how much time he has put into using the Steam Deck, to which he responds “Quite a bit.” He then states that he is currently playingFinal Fantasy 14, particularly with his son. This is quite different from what he used to test the portable system, as he stated last year thathe had been playing Dota 2 to try out the Steam Deck.

Newell speaks about his son getting intoFinal Fantasy 14, and how he was getting frustrated with the people that he would go raiding with. He then asked Newell to be his “minion,” particularly his healer that will not let him die when he is tanking. Newell states that he had gotten burned out onWorld of Warcraft, and that he had not played an MMO for some time. Since he started playingFinal Fantasy 14with his son, Newell says that he has been “playing a ton of it on the Deck.”

Those who purchase a Steam Deck will not have a shortage of games to play. Along withFinal Fantasy 14,Valve recently revealed 150 games that will be compatible with the Steam Deck. Counting other games that were previously revealed to be playable on the handheld system, players will be able to access over 300 titles when away from their PCs.

Valve recently gave confirmation thatElden Ringwill be available on the Steam Deck, along with other FromSoftware titles, such asDark Souls 3andSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This is a big achievement for the system, asElden Ringis one of the year’s biggest and most well received titles, ensuring that gamers such as Newell will be able to play the biggest PC releases when they go mobile.
