A hilarious video fromPokemon ScarletandPokemon Violetshows aSuper Smash Bros.-like launch of Jigglypuff into the sky. Weird glitches inPokemon ScarletandVioletaren’t entirely uncommon. Bizarre technical issues leading to strange happenings in the new RPGs have led players to question much of what happens in-game. But sometimes, like with this funny Jigglypuff video clip, it’s just a completely normal game mechanic added by Game Freak that many players aren’t familiar with.
Weather has been a key feature in thePokemonfranchise going all the way back sincePokemon Goldand Silver. Weather plays a key role in combat, with certain weather modifying or unlocking moves. Game Freak stepped upweather inPokemon SwordandShield, visually if not mechanically. That’s carried over intoPokemon ScarletandViolet, too, but Game Freak has decided to have a bit more fun with some of the weather options.

The video that was shared on Reddit is titled “Bro is gone” and that’s an apt description for what it shows. The player is rolling through the open world in the middle of a storm when they spot a Jigglypuff. They quickly turn theirKoraidontoward the Jigglypuff, perhaps with the intention of catching it, when it becomes clear the Pokemon is in the middle of a nervous animation. Before the player can figure out what’s going on, the Jigglypuff is launched into the air and disappears in the distance.
What really drives home how funny the situation is can be found in the Reddit thread’s comments. The top reply says, “Jigglypuuuuuuuuuuuuuffffffffffffff! GAME!” which is a reference toSuper Smash Bros. MostSuper Smash Bros.players will be familiar withJigglypuff missing a Rest attack, setting them up to be smashed off-stage. On second viewing, Jigglypuff getting blown away does look a lot like aSuper Smash Bros. fight coming to its conclusion.
While some might assume that this is a glitch, thePokemon Scarletand Violetcommunity is agreeing that this is actually an example of an in-game mechanic. Certainlightweight Pokemoncan be blown away, just like Jigglypuff, during Strong Winds. Don’t be surprised to see flying Pokemon depending on the weather.
The video clip is especially funny because of the layers to it. Whether it’s aSuper Smash Bros.fight ending, a strange physics glitch for the new games,Pokemonanime Jigglypuff blasting off again withTeam Rocket, or just a funny game mechanic Game Freak added as a surprise,Pokemon’s open world has never been more interesting to explore. Who knows what Pokemon trainers will stumble on next?
