Horizon Forbidden Westis undoubtedly one of PlayStation’s hit games of this generation even though it’s only a year in. The vast world ofHorizon Forbidden Westand the exploration can make one lose track of time. But as great of an experience as the game can be, sometimes it brings fans crashing back to Earth. Or in the case of this player’s experience, instead of crashing, they’re falling into an infinite abyss.
A player posted aHorizon Forbidden Westgameplayvideo onto Reddit of them climbing up the mountain of the Base and, as they are about to enter, they suddenly fall through the floor and infinitely plunge through the map. The glitch seems to be an issue with how slowly the game can load in the environment. It seems that if the process of loading the floor and surrounding environment lags, the player can open the door of the Base and fall through the floor before the room finishes loading.

The glitch seems to happen often as players also share their experiences with the same glitch. This same glitch can also happen at the bottom of the stairs from GAIA’s room. Some players in the post’s comment section mention using the inconvenience to their advantageto gain the Long Glide trophy inHorizon Forbidden West. Since there is nothing to hinder the glide, it’s a clever cheese for a trophy. It seems to be a glitch that can catch a player unaware if they’re not paying attention. Gamers expect the environment in games to be there, and to suddenly be in an infinite void can break the immersion and become a bit annoying.
Fans mostly did not mention what console they were on where the glitch happened, but when some did, they mentioned the glitch happening on PS4 or PS4 Pro systems more often. Load times for game startup, after death, or a game save on PS4 do take some time. It’s not a stretch to believe that there could a lag in loadingHorizon Forbidden West’senvironment. The texturing and poorly rendered surfaces can happen if a player gets to an area faster than the system can load the game properly.
Since the glitch seems somewhat known among fans, this has to be an issue that the team at Guerilla Games is aware of. Though they have released patch fixes about once a week since the release of the game, this bug is one that has evaded capture. The most recentHorizon Forbidden West1.09 Patch fixed more popular known glitches like the 100% glitchand other issues with main and side quests, but this one isn’t solved quite yet. There are no mentions of this glitch in the r/Horizon subreddit or in the support thread, but with this and other players posting this video onto the subreddit while also having a bit of fun with it, it’s surely on the team’s radar and should be addressed, if it can be, eventually.
Horizon Forbidden Westis out now on PS4 and PS5.
