Summary

WhenFortniteadded a crossover skin referencingThe Elder Scrolls Online, the end result missed out on some surprising potential. With over a thousand skins in the game, to say that players have more than enough to choose from would be an understatement. However, when it comes to crossover skins, there is a higher bar to clear due to their preexisting fanbases. WhenFortnitefinally crossed over withThe Elder Scrolls Online, players were able to get a new skin and some gear out of the deal. The vast amount of potential this concept had was not fully realized, though.

Ever since the debut ofFortnite’s crossover withBorderlands, the Gaming Legends series has featured characters from various games being introduced as skins inFortnite. This has continued steadily, with the one recent example being the Doom Slayer and some associated gear being unlockable in Chapter 4 Season 1’s Battle Pass. Although these skins don’t play any differently than any other in the game, they do have the appeal of letting players play as some of their favorite characters from outside sources. Considering that the Gaming Legends series keeps growing, it’s clearly an idea that works. The Elder Scrolls Onlinewas only the latest example, yet it feels like more should have been done.

Fortnite’s Elder Scrolls Online Crossover Didn’t Go as Far as it Could Have

Released during the most recent season,Fortnite’s crossover withThe Elder Scrolls Onlinecame in the form of the Heroes of Tamriel set. The set features two pieces of back bling, a new wrap for weapons and vehicles, the Ebonheart Battleaxe pickaxe, and the Nord Warrior skin. The skin is inspired by the recurring Nord Warrior that appears in the trailers forThe Elder Scrolls Onlineand its expansions, with his long, braided beard and horned helmet being instantly recognizable. As one of the effective faces of the game with a memorable appearance, he seems like a natural choice to enterFortniteas a skin.

Unfortunately, bringing over the Nord Warrior left out a few important pieces. Astrailers forThe Elder Scrolls Onlineshow, the Nord Warrior is only one of three characters to star in the cinematics. Alongside him are an elven mage and a hooded assassin, both of whom show off a lot of impressive feats during their adventures. Considering that the three of them share importance in the trailers, it seems odd that only the Nord Warrior would get the honor of crossing over. Not to mention, a Nord Warrior is only one of numerous builds that players can useThe Elder Scrolls Online.

Although the mage and assassin missed out on the crossover, it may not be too late for them. AsFortnitecontinues crossing over with other licenses, it’s possible that the other iconicElder Scrolls Onlinecharacters could eventually make their way over. The game has revisited old cosmetic sets in the past in order to make additions, and it’s possible that the same could happen with the Heroes of Tamriel set. The fact that the mage and assassin have signature weapons that could become pickaxes does give them good arguments to be involved, after all. While not a guarantee, at least the possibility is out there.

The Nord Warrior is a cool addition toFortnite, and he managed the change to the game’s art style quite well. However, seeing asThe Elder Scrolls Onlinecontinues expanding, it feels odd that only he managed to make the leap.Elder Scrolls Onlinehas a lot more to show than just burly warriors, and one could even argue that the mage and assassin had more exciting scenes in some trailers than the Nord Warrior did.The Elder Scrolls Onlineis a great crossover forFortnite, but the full potential of the franchise wasn’t fulfilled.

The Elder Scrolls Onlineis available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
