Fortniteis no stranger to crossovers, having collaborated with just about every major pop-culture franchise at least once over the last five years.Fortnite’s latest crossovers is one of its most ambitious, bringing the intense anime action ofAttack on Titanto the battle royale for the first time. Along with skins based on series icons like Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackermann, and Captain Levi,Fortnite’sAttack on Titancrossoveralso brings a new set of Mythic weapons which might even rival the fan-favorite Spider-Man Web Shooters.
Available for just one Season,Fortnite’s Spider-Man Web Shooter Mythic first debuted inFortniteChapter 3 Season 1. Found in Spider-Man’s backpacks littered across the map, these Web Shooters let players swing around the island and get the drop on their opponents. WhileFortnitehas tried to repeat the Web Shooters' success a few times over the last year or so, no other traversal item has come close - that is until now.

How Fortnite’s Attack on Titan ODM Gear Compares to Spider-Man’s Web Shooters
To go right alongsideFortnite’s newAttack on Titanskins, the latest update has added in twoAttack on Titan-themed Mythics. The first one these Mythic items is the Omni-Directional Movement Gear, shortened to ODM Gear. On the surface,Fortnite’s ODM Gear functions quite similarly to Spider-Man’s Web Shooters. Players simply need to pull the right trigger in and the ODM Gear will launch two winches into the targeted spot, pulling the player upward. The main function of the ODM Gear is to traverse the map at a much faster pace, swinging from the island’s scenery objects much like Spidey’s Web Shooters, but there’s more than meets the eye to this new Mythic.
Unlike Spider-Man’s Web Shooters,Fortnite’s ODM Gearcan also be used for attack. When swinging through the air, the player can hold down the left trigger to initiate the ODM Gear’s attack mode. Holding the trigger will let the player hover in the air for a moment, and from there, they can target an opponent on the ground and press the right trigger in to start an attack. Doing this will send the player twirling towards their enemy, and after they’ve made contact, they’re automatically bounced back into the air, just a few meters away from their target. It’s here that the ODM Gear’s true potential is found. After being bounced back into the air, the player can then make a subsequent attack. If the player is fast enough, they can deliver around three of four hits with the ODM Gear, which is enough to down the target.
While it’s pretty tricky to pull off lethal maneuvers like the one just mentioned, it’s more than possible. With enough practice, players will be able to zip towards a target, attack them from above, dash away to safety, and repeat the process until their target is down.Fortnite’s done a really good job of making the ODM Gear really feel like its anime counterpart, with unique swinging animations being ripped straight out of the source material. ThoughSpider-Man’s Web Shootershad some great, authentic-feeling swinging animations, they don’t quite match the fluidity of the new ODM Gear.
To top it all off,Fortnitealso brings another newAttack on Titan-themed Mythic to the game, the Thunder Spear. The only weapon that’s capable of being used in midair in conjunction with the ODM Gear, the Thunder Spear has just two rounds of ammo, requiring some real precision to land a hit. Much like their on-screen and on-page counterpart,Fortnite’s Thunder Spears are designed to hook themselves into targets, and then explode. But what makes the Thunder Spears stick out from the rest ofFortnite’s explosive arsenal is its ability to travel through structures. Firing a Thunder Spear at a wall will often damage the player hiding on the other side, making them particularly deadly inFortnite’s regular battle royale mode.
Fortniteis available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
