John Wick is back and deadlier than ever. Following a nearly three-year hiatus, Keanu Reeves returns to the big screen to play the titular assassin in the first look atJohn Wick 4, which was released by Lionsgate and shared on social media.
In addition to Reeves,John Wick: Chapter 4will see the return of Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, Ian McShane as Winston, the manager of the Continental Hotel, andLance Reddick as Continental concierge Charon. The upcoming film will also welcome Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, and Clancy Brown.

Although plot details remain under wraps, the action sequel will likely occur after the events depicted inJohn Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.In that film, Wick teams up with The Bowery King to get revenge on The High Table after being shot and left for dead by Winston to appease the group. Still, the newly-released first look only adds to the mystery surroundingChapter 4. The image shows Wick solemnly sitting with a haunted look on his face amid a blur of candles in what appears to be a church or some holy setting.
While the new photo provides few clues as to what viewers can expect from the forthcoming film,director Chad Stahelski previously anticipated the premiseof an emotional climax. “There’s a good conclusion to an emotional thread that we’ve already had,” he told Collider in May. Stahleski also teased new forms of stunt work and weapons, including nunchaku.
According toJohn Wickfranchise newcomer Brown,John Wick 4will delve into the power structures and entanglements of the franchise’s criminal underworld. “More of the High Table, the kind of intricacies of that authority structure is revealed,” the actor said during an interview with Collider in January. “I am in a couple of scenes that you could argue are action scenes, I suppose. A lot of my scenes are with Bill Skarsgård, which was a lot of fun,” he added at the time.
Starting as a small-budget action thriller in 2014,John Wickhas since become one of the highest-grossing movie franchises in recent history, and anticipation surrounding the forthcoming installment isn’t stopping anytime soon —even afterJohn Wick 4has been delayed twice.
