Of course, this title was only the first part of the experience.Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis proving to be a massive project, splitting up the original experience across multiple parts to spread out the scope of such an ambitious project. Considering that this first part of the remake only covered a portion of the first disc of the original game, players have yet to meet Cid in this new reimagining ofFinal Fantasy 7. It is likely that the second installment ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeis currently in development, and there are a few actors who would be a good fit for the gruff owner of the Highwind airship.

Chris Edgerly

The first and most obvious choice would be to bring back Chris Edgerly for the role, especially since he already has experience playing Cid. Portraying the character in both theKingdom Heartsfranchise, as well as the 2005 animated filmFinal Fantasy 7: Advent Children, Edgerly could easily step back into the role due to his familiarity with Cid’s personality and line delivery. If finding a new talent proves to be a difficult task for the developers, Edgerly has proven himself to be great in the role.

John DiMaggio

John DiMaggio is no stranger to the world of voice acting, with a plethora of memorable performances across television, film, and video games. Many may recognize his voice as the foul mouthed drunken robot Bender onFuturama, while others may remember him asMarcus Fenix from theGears of Warseries. Regardless of how fans know him best, DiMaggio has shown that he can deliver a good deal of depth and emotion to characters who may initally appear rough and crude on the surface. His grizzly line delivery would also be a good emulation of what Edgerly helped integrate into Cid’s character in prior appearances.

Scott McNeil

Cid is a character with a quick wit, and often butts heads with a lot of the other characters in the game. Because of this, the voice actor will need to be able to speak the dialogue with a good amount of attitude and personality. Scott McNeil has built a career on these kind of characters, one of the most notable being Rattrap on the90’s animated seriesBeast Machines. If he would bring even half of that energy on display into a performance as Cid, it would surely bring the character roaring to life.

Mark Hamill

Mark Hamill should need no introduction in the world of pop culture. Playing on both the side of good and evil asLuke Skywalkerand The Joker respectively, Hamill has a track record as a talented, versatile actor. He truly transforms himself and becomes lost in his performances, sometimes to a point where its easy to forget that Hamill is even the actor behind the character at all. Many of Hamill’s characters have a toughness, or crass line delivery, two qualities which would be perfect if he took on the role of Cid in the next chapter ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.

Jeremy Davies

Last but not least is Jeremy Davies, a respected actor in film, but likely recognized by gamers for his BAFTA winning performance asBaldur in 2018’sGod of War. Baldur is his only video game role to date, but Davies made the transition into motion capture and voiceover with relative ease. Baldur was an antagonist in the game, yet the character was played with levels of nuance and care rarely seen in the medium. Davies may be interested in pursuing other video game roles after this success, and jumping into theFinal Fantasyseries as Cid could be the next big step.
