Summary
Ben Starr, the voice actor ofFinal Fantasy 16’s Clive Rosfield, has joined fans in calling for a brand-new entry in theFinal Fantasy Tacticsspin-off subseries. The firstFinal Fantasy Tacticsgame was first released in 1997 for the PS1 as a tactical RPG spin-off to the mainline games. The original game got plenty of critical acclaim and would become one of the franchise’s most well-regarded spin-offs, which eventually created a mini-franchise. While the series hasn’t had a new title since the 2007 remake of the first game on PSP, there are still a number of fans who are hoping the series will make a comeback one day, with Ben Starr being one of them.
Ben Starr not only plays the protagonist ofFinal Fantasy 16, but he himself has been a huge fan of the franchise ever since the eighth mainline game. Starr has also previously stated that portraying Clive Rosfield was a big honor. Being not only a fan of the game he worked on but also the entire franchise, Starr believes thattheFinal Fantasy Tacticsspin-off serieshas a lot to offer and that it is high time for a new entry.

Speaking withTheGamerat the BAFTA Games Awards this past week, Starr calls theFinal Fantasy Tacticsgames “iconic,” believing it is time for a new game. These calls for a new game in this series aren’t entirely new, as there were a number ofrumors spread of aFinal Fantasy Tacticsremasterin 2023, though nothing has materialized yet, with the rumors themselves also being dispelled by series creator Yasumi Matsuno. These inquires have reached Starr himself, as he reveals he’d been asked about a newTacticsgame, and admits he’d love a new game in the series himself. “All I’ve heard over the past year is ‘When’s Tactics?’ I would love it. Absolutely, it’s time for Tactics,” says Starr.

Starr then praisedthe stories of the previousFinal Fantasy Tacticsgames, stating that they have the ability to tell stories that evenFinal Fantasy 16wouldn’t be able to do. He notes thatFinal Fantasyfans likely want to see more of what theTacticsseries had, between its engaging storylines and complex characters.

Questions regarding a newFinal Fantasy Tacticsgame have also reachedFinal Fantasy 16producer Naoki Yoshida, who comments that he and the other developers at Square Enix would love to make a new one as well. That said, Yoshida doesn’t believe aTacticsgame usingFinal Fantasy 16’s action-heavy gameplay would be a good template to work off of if they are considering making a new entry, and there has been no solid confirmation of a newTacticsgame being in production at this time either.
Final Fantasy Tactics
The styles of FINAL FANTASY and OGRE BATTLE converge inFINAL FANTASY TACTICS, a strategy RPG created by the minds behind those classic series. A tale of political intrigue and betrayal woven through a complex web of interpersonal relationships, this game requires you to follow a convoluted plot through several twisting chapters. You assume control a young noble named Ramza, a young lad embroiled in a political revolution that spirals into a supernatural threat endangering the entire world. The influence from the FINAL FANTASY games is seen in the monster designs, spells, weapons, and most notably the character classes. Known as jobs, these character types are taken directly from FINAL FANTASY V, and allow you to completely customize your characters' abilities. On the battlefield you will feel the gameplay ties to TACTICS OGRE, as you maneuver your allies around the grid-based map in turn-based strategic combat. The game also features an epic soundtrack from the composers of the OGRE BATTLE series, Masaharu Iwata and Hitoshi Sakimoto.
