Reddit user omega-lf posted a mockup of a New Orleans-basedFalloutmap. Along with the map, the user provided some fan-made lore for the post-apocalyptic city. They explained that although New Orleans was not hit directly by nuclear weapons, radioactive hurricanes caused its levees to break, flooding significant portions of the city. Some historical areas, like the French Quarter, are still above water. The countryside surrounding the city is hostile with human communities peppered throughout it. A network of small rivers allows the user to traverse the map’s rural, swampy regions, while larger rivers cut across the whole map. In the post’s comments section, theFalloutfan offered plenty more lore regarding the region’s factions, enemies, history, and more.

Many fans were impressed by the creation and voiced their support that New Orleans would make for a greatFalloutlocation. However, others worried that the map featured too much water, which is usually a useless facet ofFalloutgames. But, to be fair to omega-lf, they explained that the water could be utilized for travel purposes, something that Bethesda could probably manage following some of theimpressive features seen inStarfield.

New Orleans is one of the more unique cities in the United States, earning its spot as alocation in other popular games likeRed Dead Redemption 2. Its combination of French, Southern, and Caribbean influences creates a unique atmosphere that could be utilized in many ways within a futureFalloutgame.

Although fans are probably disappointed that the series' next entry is still a long way out, they still have good reason to be excited for 2024, especially afterTodd Howard compared this year’sFalloutshow toFallout 5. He claimed that the show is so well-made and respectful to its source material that it could have been aFalloutgame all on its own.

Fallout

Fallout is a post-apocalyptic RPG franchise created by Interplay Entertainment and developed by Black Isle Studios, before Bethesda Softworks took over the IP in 2004. The series features a retrofuturistic style following a nuclear war that devastated the game’s world. Players typically inhabit a Vault Dweller, someone who remained safe in an underground shelter, appearing in the post-apocalyptic world where a problem needs to be solved. While the older games were more tactical RPGs, Fallout 3 took the franchise into the first person shooter genre, while also retaining the RPG elements.
