Don’t Starve Togetherrecently came out for the Nintendo Switch, meaning more players can try to withstand the harsh terrain and terrible monsters that come with the land. And thankfully, players can pick their starting characters based on how much experience or which DLCs they have. While the co-op has more character starting options than the single player version, there are some characters that are hard to unlock without using Spools.

Most characters are unlocked via experience, but some of the higher leveled characters that can add both relief or challenge to the gameplay adventure requires Spools in order to purchase their character chest. Thankfully, this guide will inform players on the importance of Spools and how to get them to start theirDon’t Starve Togetheradventure.
What Are Spools?
Spools use some of the itemsobtained in the Curio Cabinet such as Curio Items, which is exclusive toDon’t Starve Together. There are various items that players can snatch up, like skins, profile icons or emoticons. Depending on what players want to get depends on how many Spools it takes. Like most games, the higher the rarity, the more Spools it will cost to unlock them.
How To Get Spools
Spools are collected when unraveling certain items that are dropped throughout the week. There is a total of eight randomly dropped items in game throughout a week. Additionally, players will receive daily gifts just by logging into the game, meaning that players that only log in a couple of days and play still have a chance at gaining Spools.

However, those that play religiously have a chance at snagging up to 15 Curios per week! Note that during in-game Events, players also can snatch some Curios then. Players are also able to trade their Curios with other players if they wish. Once plays have Curios that they don’t want, they can then unravel them to collect Spools.
All items have a certain rarity tag that determines how many Spools it takes to craft the item and how many it will give back when unraveled. Players should note that the amount of ingredients it costs to create an item is three times more than what players will obtain when unraveling it, so players should be careful to spend their Spools wisely.

What Are Spools Used For?
Like mentioned briefly, Spools can purchase several different items for the game. Players can use them to buy character skins, belongings, emotes, emoticons, portrait frames, profile icons, beards or vignettes. The graph below explains each item briefly to give players an idea on what they should expect before diving into purchasing.
Description
Wardrobe
Players can unlock some amazing skins for their characters. With five different types of skins (body, hands, legs, feet, heads), players can deck out their favorite character to be the star of any multiplayer group.
Belongings
For veterans of the game who want to try out different looks for items, structures andfollowers, likeCritters, this is perfect. These skins can be applied at the time of crafting and changed afterwards using a Clean Sweeper.
Beards
Sadly, this only applies to Wilson and Webber, however, for those players who absolutely love these characters and want to make them cuter by some facial hair customizations, this is perfect for them.
Emotes
Emotes allow the character to do certain actions. While there are some default actions, players can unlock some to liven up the party conversations.
Emoticons
Very handy for multiplayer groups where friends can’t talk to one another. These icons can indicate to certain objects or warn about creatures, ask questions, or just talk about casually when everyone is huddled around a campfire for the night.
Portrait Frames
The frames add a background to players Profile Icons to add a little spice.
Profile Icons
These icons vary from characters to creature and monsters. They can be looked at and selected in the Curio Cabinet.
Vignettes
These items reskin the loading screens. Multiple can be selected to give players a variety of their preferred loading screens.
However, if players aren’t interested in a lot of those customizations, Spools can also be used to purchase characters, character themed chests or event themed items. There are four main purchasable characters inDon’t Starve Togetherthat players should look when they start collecting Spools,Wortox, Wurt, Wanda and Wormwood.
Each of these characters cost about 2,700 Spools. Unfortunately, players are unable to buy Spools (however, players can purchase Character Chests if they want to avoid the waiting period) so it’s best to start grinding away now to get as much customization as needed for a perfect playthrough!
