In one of the latest trends onTwitch, content creators have begun to stream TV shows on their channels, such asMasterChefand various anime. While these streams have proved to be popular, with many viewers tuning in to watch, they have led to somestreamers being hit with DMCA-related suspensions. One of the most recent streamers caught in the controversy was the Canadian variety streamer known as DisguisedToast.

The problems for DisguisedToast started on January 10 while streaming on Twitch. During the broadcast, the content creator decided to begin watching theanime series known asDeath Note. While he managed to watch a number of the episodes on stream, things took an unfortunate turn for streamer later in the day.

In a tweet from January 10, the same day as the live stream, DisguisedToast revealed that he had been banned fromTwitch, presumably for watching theDeath Noteanime series. While the ban might not have come as a surprise to many fans, the length of the suspension probably did. According to the streamer, he had been banned for a month. “Welp, looks like I’ll be seeing you guys in a month,” he said.

While this ban issued to DisguisedToast is somewhat expected, it was a much more severe punishment compared to others that have streamed copyrighted programs. For example, popular streamerPokimane received a ban from Twitchafter watchingAvatar: The Last Airbenderlive on her channel. However, she only received a 48-hour suspension, unlike the month-long ban for DisguisedToast. In addition, a number of other high-profile streamers have streamed copyrighted programs on Twitch without receiving the same punishment. Some of these streamers included xQc, Hasan, and Mizkif.

However, it is worth mentioning that this is not the first time DisguisedToast has streamed TV shows. Over the past couple of weeks, he has helped start the trend of watching anime on live streams. Before his ban for watching theDeath Noteanime, the popular streamer broadcasted full-length episodes ofNarutoon his channel. Nevertheless, it begs the question as to why it took this long for him to be hit with a ban of this magnitude.

This suspension comes at an interesting time, asDisguisedToast recently moved back to Twitchafter spending roughly 2 years with Facebook Gaming. While it appears that he intends to stay on the platform, it will be interesting to see how this controversy impacts his relationship with the company. It seems only time will tell what the future holds, not only for the star streamer but also for the entire Twitch community.
