Summary

ThoughDiablo Immortalhas had a controversial reputation in the community,Diablo 4players are hoping that Blizzard draws inspiration from its social features and carries them over into the franchise’s most recent release. With Season of the Malignant in full swing, fans have had a chance to experience the full breadth ofDiablo 4’s endgame, and though Helltides have been significantly nerfed as a farming option in the latest patch, Nightmare Dungeons have solidified themselves as the premium option of obtaining loot.

Whereas Helltides, World Bosses, and outdoor Events all benefit from random players joining in on the fun,Nightmare Dungeons inDiablo 4take place in an instance with a pre-built group. Given the importance of Nightmare Dungeons, many fans feel thatDiablo 4could have better social features to help facilitate matchmaking. Compared to the lobbies ofDiablo 2, or the global chat channels ofDiablo 3, it’s much harder to socialize inDiablo 4, and thus many players feel that grouping up for Nightmare Dungeons is passively being discouraged by the game.

The topic was broached by movieguy2828 on theDiablo 4subreddit, where their suggestion rather sharply pointed out that evenDiablo Immortalhad a party finder feature in the game, making its omission inDiablo 4somewhat bizarre. Since launch, players have demanded a plethora ofquality-of-life features inDiablo 4, and having a party finder to help tackle Nightmare Dungeons would not only encourage players to push beyond their limit, but also allow them to make friends along the way.

However, in the recent Campfire Chat, Blizzard pointed out that while Nightmare Dungeons are a key part ofDiablo 4, they aren’t really meant to be “push” content. A possible interpretation of this statement is that the endgame inDiablo 4will likely look a lot different after Season 2 finishes at the start of 2024, and that if the developers are planning to implement better social features to the game, chances are it will only happen in Season 3.

This would certainly coincide with a separate statement ofleaderboards coming toDiablo 4in Season 3, especially if they happen to include any potential new game mode added toDiablo 4. Ultimately, while players remained disgruntled over the way Blizzard has rolled out the latestDiablo 4update, the game continues to be popular, and will hopefully continue to improve in the months to come.

Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
