Diablo 4will be missing a classic action RPG feature found in the franchise’s past. WhileDiablo 4could technically get this feature later on, it is unlikely Blizzard will add it after launch.
The recent open beta forDiablo 4saw record-breaking attendance. Blizzard has since analyzed the best and worst parts of the beta, and has revealed severalchangesDiablo 4will make based on player feedback. Fans can expect class balances, quality-of-life improvements, and even a change to the typeface used in some parts of the game.

However, it seems like one unpopular feature fromtheDiablo 4betawon’t be changing any time soon. Many players were not happy with the minimap presented in the game. Some fans hopedDiablo 4would eventually add an overlay map like the one available inDiablo 2. Unfortunately, senior vice president andDiablohead Rod Fergusson confirmed Blizzard currently has no plans to implement such a change in the new title.
Toggleable, transparent overlay maps are a genre standard feature for many ARPGs. The feature was cut fromDiablo 3, but the minimap itself was enlarged and made transparent to facilitate its removal. The minimap inDiablo 4is the smallest one in the series yet, and is more opaque than its predecessors. With few options to enlarge or customize the minimap inDiablo 4, players will have to adjust to the new system of navigation.
A lot of players aren’t happyDiablo 4isn’t adding an overlay map for the game’s release. The feature was sorely missed inDiablo 3, and many hoped it would return for the sequel. With thevast open world ofDiablo 4, an overlay map would make navigation much easier. Though it could clog up the screen during combat, having it as an option would only benefit the game. Many hopeDiablo 4will consider adding this feature in the future, unlikely as it is.
As inconvenient as it might be, the lack of an overlay map seems to be one of only a few complaints players have withDiablo 4. The game may not be perfect, but it seems to be pretty close.Diablo 4has already gone gold, despite its release being over a month away. With the hype still high after the beta, it is clearDiablo 4’slaunch is going to be huge, and that the game has a serious shot at Game of the Year.
Diablo 4will release on June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
