WARNING: Massive Destiny 2 The Final Shape spoilers ahead, proceed at your own risk.
Destiny 2is barely two days into Season of the Deep, but the general consensus seems to be that the story is good and the new weapons and loot are even better, with players already making powerful combos and taking gun perks to the next level. While the new season had all eyes locked onto itself on its launch day, the PlayStation Showcase changed that very quickly with a surprise teaser trailer of The Final Shape expansion, which is slated to launch sometime in 2024 and endDestiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga. The teaser also came with its own surprise, this time the appearance of Cayde-6, a character that players had to say goodbye to in the Forsaken expansion when he died at the hands of Uldren Sov.

Cayde-6’s return is the main point of discussion within the community for many reasons, starting with the fact that players are looking forward to meeting the character again, especially now that he’s being voiced by the original VA, Nathan Fillion. On top of that, part of the discussion is about how Cayde’s return paved the way for the Bungie store to promote plenty of merchandise new and old surrounding the beloved character. Yet, the most interesting bit remains that Cayde-6 being in The Final Shape confirms theDestiny 2leaksthat emerged online months ago.

Destiny 2’s The Final Shape Leaks Explained
Prior to the release ofDestiny 2’s Lightfall expansion, some leaks started to surface about how the Traveler would resurrect a being similar to Rhulk, probably Nezarec, while shooting a Light beam at the Witness' ship, creating trees in the process. This was indeed correct, as it ended up being the introductory cutscene for Lightfall, but it didn’t necessarily vouch for all the remaining leaks regarding The Final Shape.
According to the leaks, The Final Shape is going to be about the collapsing of space and time into each other, which creates a long stretch of land dubbed as Valley of Time where all the timelines converge. This is likely the “here” mentioned in the teaser trailer for The Final Shape that Bungie released, and Cayde-6’s presence is probably due to the Witness beginning its plan of creating what it constantly refers to as “the final shape.“Destiny 2’s Cayde-6being in the teaser confirms these leaks because he was indeed mentioned months ago as the guide players will have in this Valley of Time.
This doesn’t mean that every other point made in the alleged leaks is going to be 100% accurate, but it’s very likely that the general idea is not only consistent with the leaks but probably what Bungie has been planning on for a long time. Alongside what seems to be a final confrontation with the Witness both in a Raid and as a 12-player activity,Destiny 2’s The Final Shapecould also allow Guardians to meet old foes, including Oryx and Rhulk, with the latter seemingly leading the Taken.
All this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but the fact that Bungie’s trailer for The Final Shape features Cayde-6’s return on the other side of the triangular portal-like shape created on the Traveler doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. If the leaks are to be believed, then players will likely only be able to engage with Cayde-6 in the so-called Valley of Time, meaning this doesn’t imply his return as Hunter Vanguard because his existence is tied to the place where space and time collide. Still, this is an interesting and unique direction forDestiny 2’s upcoming expansion and one that many players probably didn’t expect.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
