While the majority of theDestiny 2community is excited about the imminent release of the long-awaitedLightfallDLC, some veterans recommend completing a simple, yet potentially crucial task ahead of its release. Nearly everyone knows by now that Bungie aims to rework huge swathes of the game’s systems with this year’s expansion pack, and the possibility of growing pains is very real indeed.
As outlined in therecentDestiny 2: LightfallViDoc, players can expect a whole slew of changes to many of the game’s core progression and combat systems. From the release of an all-new subclass, Strand, all the way to the backend changes to how the Seasonal Artifact and its perks work,Lightfallmarks the beginning of a new era for the franchise.

With so many huge changes being made all at once, it’s almost a given that at least some aspects ofDestiny 2will end up being broken on day one. Armor mods, in fact, are one of the community’s biggest concerns at this time, and players have been discussing how to best handle the changes coming withLightfall. While it’s entirely possible that this specific feature will work just fine, most veteran players agree that the best course of action is to clear out all armor mod slots before servers go down. This way, players' armor will present a clear slate for the new set of mods, with no chance of the old system breaking upon the introduction of new ones.
The big overarching change that has spurred the community into clearing their armor of old mods areDestiny 2: Lightfall’s massive buildcrafting changes. Not only are gear loadouts finally making their way into the game, but Bungie is also using the opportunity to effectively revamp the game’s entire modding system, changing costs, functionality, and the overall combat ecosystem as a whole.
Should something break during the transition toLightfall’s new modding system, players may end up getting stuck with old, unusable mods on their top-tier armor. WithDestiny 2’s upcoming difficulty increase, this could be a huge problem for players who may wish to brave the new expansion pack’s Legend-tier campaign mode, for example. While Bungie is likely to have considered this problem ahead of time, veterans recommend following the adage of being better safe than sorry, regardless.
Having the armor modding system potentially broken on day one isn’t the community’s only concern at this time. Some players are worried thatDestiny 2’s Strand abilities won’t synergize wellbetween players, with them potentially cannibalizing each other’s passive effects. Whether this ends up being the case is anyone’s guess at this time.
Destiny 2: Lightfallreleases on February 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
