Summary
TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3skin that heavily resembles Groot from Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyis once again coming under fire from the community as it’s still unfairly difficult to spot in many environments.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3has recently been released to subpar reception, mostly due to its short campaign and obtuse Call of DutyHQ launcher. The game’s multiplayer, on the other hand, is receiving some praise with its 16 remadeModern Warfare 2(2009) maps and much improved movement.
Call of Duty’s Gaia skin, more commonly known as the Groot skin due to its make-up of branches and twigs, was introduced during Season 6 ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2as part of the Halloween-themed Spawn battle pass. WithCall of Duty’s carry forward system, players who own the skin inModern Warfare 2can also use it in this year’s newModern Warfare 3. When it first came out, the Gaia skin was heavily criticized for being difficult to see on the battlefield. Partway through Season 6,Call of Dutymade some minor adjustments to improve the skin’s visibility, though it seems the skin is still causing problems for players inModern Warfare 3’s multiplayer.

On Reddit, Glittering-Laugh8544 expressed their frustration over the poor visibility of the Gaia skin, pleading for developer Sledgehammer Games to make some sort of alteration to the cosmetic which would stop it from blending into environments. In the post, they bring up maps like Estate and Wasteland where the skin is especially tough to spot, and mention that the problem will likely persist in theupcomingWarzonemap Urzikstan, which is launching as part of Season 1. Additionally, Glittering-Laugh calls back to the LA ThievesCall of DutyLeague skin, which wasn’t as tough to see as the Gaia skin but was still nerfed.

Some commenters under the Reddit post raise some suggestions to alleviateCall of Duty’s Gaia skin problemlike thickening the branches or filling the empty space inside the skin with some sort of black material. Another commenter brings up a valid concern that, since the Gaia skin was introduced inModern Warfare 2by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer may not have the power to do anything about it inModern Warfare 3without Infinity Ward’s permission. It’s unknown if this is really the case, or if Infinity Ward will have to take care of this issue itself. Whatever the case, it’s clear a change needs to be made, as there are undoubtedly players out there who are using the Gaia skin to gain unfair advantages during matches.
There are also some fans who are drastically calling for the skin to be removed fromModern Warfare 3entirely. Even if owners of the skin were to be compensated with other items in place of the skin’s removal fromCall of Duty,Gaia’s removal would likely cause an uproar, as it was a major reward that was part of a paid battle pass. If Gaia does indeed receive a visual nerf, it likely won’t come untilSeason 1 ofModern Warfare 3begins on December 6.
