Bungie launches a new Twitter account that will serve the role ofDestiny 2Community Manager after one of its most-known managers left the company at the end of 2022. Multiple people will run this new account that will directlyshare the weekly TWABDestiny 2Community posts, share game updates and other notices, and harvest feedback from members of the community on Twitter.Interacting with the community is a delicate and necessary tool for video game developers. For years,Destiny 2players have seen communication on the game by dmg04 who was both informative and fun to engage with on Twitter. After his departure from the company in 2022, some would wonder who would step into that community role next. This move is assumed to help manage the stress that comes with community relations anda considerable spike in developer abusein recent times. In the “This Week At Bungie” (TWAB) post announcing this new account, Bungie said it aims to use Destiny2Team accounts on Twitter, Reddit, and the Bungie.net forum page where members of theDestiny 2team can directly speak with players.
The TWAB post mentions that theDestiny 2community can still go to the social media accounts of some of its other social media managers if they already know them, but the bulk of the correspondence going forward will be intended to run through this new account. To get the ball rolling and start ingraining this new account with its fans, the first order of business sought feedback on players' top concerns or changes they would want to see with the game. The tweets have caught the attention ofDestiny 2content creators, games media personalities, and others after validation of the account from the main Destiny 2 Twitter account and follow fromformerDestiny 2Community Manager dmg04.
Bungie is well regarded as one of the video game developers with better communication with its players than most other companies. While doing so has its upsides, being so active with the community draws ire from some that can take it too far. There have been multiple instances whereharassment of Bungie developers and social media managers crosses the line into threatsand lawsuits. This new account aims to somewhat shield Bungie personnel from abuse while still aiming to communicate with its players openly and regularly.
