After teasing his character’s importance inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, Winston Duke believes it’s time that M’Baku gets his own spinoff.

M’Baku is a powerful warrior who is the leader of Wakanda’s mountain tribe, the Jabari. At first protesting T’Challa becoming the new king inBlack Panther, he and his fellow warriors decide to help T’Challa and other Wakandans take back the throne from Killmonger. The character alsoreturned inAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers: Endgame, joining the fight to defeat Thanos.

Speaking withCollider, Duke, who made sure everyone knows he’s speaking hypothetical, was nothing but enthusiastic about the possibility of getting his solo outing. “The Jabari-Lands are such a rich space ofculture within Wakandathat it would be really cool to explore that,” Duke said. “We’re speaking purely hypothetically here. We’re just spit-balling and dreaming. You’re dreaming with me, my tall friend. I like the idea of what M’Baku would be like, out in the world. That would be pretty cool because he’s not a character that we usually see exploring. I think his type of code of honor would be pretty cool to see interact with so many other things.”

While this idea is an exciting one, especially knowing of Duke’s other acclaimed roles and that a Disney Plus series set in Wakanda is in early development, there is the possibility that his character may step intothe role of the next Black Panther, something that has been speculated among fans for quite some time. Whatever turns out to be the case, it’s nice to know M’Baku will have more time to shine in the upcoming sequel. The actor recently shared how the events of taking down Thanos have shaped not only the thriving nation but M’baku as well, adding that his character will have plenty more to do inBlack Panther 2.

Other than Duke’s return, returning cast members include Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross.New additions include Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Michaela Coel as Aneka, and Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, a genius inventor who creates a suit that rivals Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor.
