Summary

A Quiet Place: Day Oneis the most recent release in the series, and it is a prequel. It seems like there is a lot of content this universe can mine in the horror genre, from sequels to more prequels in other parts of the world. The franchise also has potential in the video game space withA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadbeing developed right now.

For those itching to play some horror games now after viewingA Quiet Place: Day One, there are some easy games to recommend. They range from straighthorror vehicles to more interpretive open-world experiences. Altogether, they are all memorable and excel at world-building, just like the film franchise ofA Quiet Place.

Xenomorph alien standing near the camera in Alien Isolation

Alien: Isolationis one of the best adaptations of theAlienfilm franchise. It stars Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda, who is trying to find her mom. Unfortunately, she gets tangled up in the Xenomorph conspiracy as well and is stalked throughout the game. There is action as players are armed with guns, mostly to fend off androids that go haywire, but they won’t do much to the Xenomorphs.

For the most part,Alien: Isolationis a stealth game. The Xenomorph is an expert tracker, and it can pop up with the drop of a pin. It’s an intense game that is not easy for those without patience. Still, it is a mesmerizing experience forAlienfans, horror fans, and stealth fans.

Exploring the world in Death Stranding

5Death Stranding

Building Bridges At The End Of The World

Death Strandingis a mixture of genres, but stealth and horror blend the most in thisopen-world adventure game. There was an event that caused the end of the world, so now the Earth above is poisoned by shadow monsters and rain that ages anything it touches. That’s why humanity lives underground, and rely on postal carriers to deliver packages above ground.

It’s hard work, but someone has to do it, and that someone is Sam Bridges. Players can’t move too fast, otherwise packages may fall off and get damaged. Plus, there are the aforementioned shadow creatures which players have to stealth through, which builds tension. Players can build things in the environment to make traversal easier, such as roads or a mechanical slingshot for fast travel.

Fiona and Hewie in Haunting Ground

Haunting Groundis one of Capcom’s more forgotten PS2 horror titles. It was a one-and-done situation, and it is one of therarest games on the PS2since the print release was low. Players begin as a young girl, Fiona, lost in a castle and being stalked by a mad killer.

Then Fiona finds a dog, Hewie, who can help her hide by distracting enemies, and that is the player’s main mode of defense. It’s a great companion game toA Quiet Place: Day One,as that film also has an animal companion. Hewie is a bit more useful than Frodo the cat from the movie though, but both are genuinely great pets that do more than just look cute.

Exploring the world in The Last Of Us

The Last of Uswon the hearts of players in 2013, while TV fans fell in love withthe live-action adaptationon Max in 2023. The worlds ofA Quiet PlaceandThe Last of Ushave so much in common. The world inThe Last of Usis full of zombified people thanks to deadly spores, not unlike the aliens ofA Quiet Place.

However, the so-called Clickers inThe Last of Usdo have excellent hearing. This means players have to be extra stealthy in the game to sneak past them, or perform one-hit kills like a master assassin. The gameplay is good, butThe Last of Usexcels in emotion, as the story between Joel and Ellie is both heartwarming and dramatic. By the end, players will be crying for both of them.

Fighting a boss in Parasite Eve

Parasite Eveis anRPG from the PS1era where Square Enix, then Squaresoft, was rather experimental. Players control a detective, Aya Brea, who has to stop a mutated girl, Eve, from turning humans into goo and animals into monsters. Eve was using her gift to speed up the evolution of mankind and animals through their mitochondria.

It was a bizarre plot to follow, but the game managed to blend sci-fi and horror elements well. It takes place in New York City which is whyA Quiet Place: Day Onefans should dig it. It’s also just a great RPG that deserves more love in this modern age. Square Enix would be smart to remake it.

Jack Baker in Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7: Biohazardwas almost like a soft reboot of the series that had seemingly got away from the mutated monsters created bythe Umbrella Corporationand recognizable characters like Leon or Jill. The hero, Ethan Winters, went to the far south to find his missing wife, Mia. Here he encountered The Baker family, who kidnap him and start to perform weird rituals.

There’s something not quite right with The Bakers, as they stalk Ethan on their land as he desperately tries to escape. The first half of the game is more stealth-based, while the second half gives Ethan more agency. He gets guns, ammo, and other supplies to fight back against The Bakers and the other odd mutants on the compound. With VR support, it can become an even more haunting experience.
