TheGrand Theft Autofranchise has always produced fun worlds for gamers to roam around at their own pace. But when it comes time to finish the main story of the game, gamers want to stop frolicking around the crime-obsessed worlds and have a great ending to sink their teeth into.

Fortunately, Rockstar Games has a great history with storytelling in theGrand Theft Autofranchise as well, and they are more than capable of bringing their long-running campaigns to excellent conclusions with some fantastical final missions. From the early games that are almost unrecognizable to fans asGTAgames to the more recent ones, there have been some amazing endings toGTAcampaigns.

7Grand Theft Auto 4: The Lost And Damned

The Get Lost mission afterThe Lost and DamnedDLC forGTA 4was an excellently fun final mission. Despite all the crimes committed across theGrand Theft Autoseries by the player characters, they have never had the chance to break into a prison before this mission.

Doing this, and then having a shootout with the guards before killing Billy and making an escape with the others made for a great conclusion to a fun DLC that often gets overlooked in favor of the equally excellentBallad of Gay Tony. The Lost And Damnedstory was a satisfying one with a great conclusion in Get Lost.

6Grand Theft Auto 3

While it isn’t one of the most beloved endings in the franchise,GTA 3had a great story and was the first of theGrand Theft Autogames to dig into character work during the narrative. The villainous betrayal of Catalinaat the beginning of the game left Claude with a long way to climb before he could get back to the top of the crime world.

In the finale, Catalina, having climbed to the top of the Colombian Cartel, has kidnapped Maria, Claude’s new love interest. To get her back, Claude has to try and ransom for her, which goes wrong due to Catalina once again betraying him, and then he must follow a helicopter that Catalina is trying to escape in before taking her down at last. A particularly satisfying final mission that sees the end of a very interesting villain.

5Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Vice Citywas another greatGTAgame in a run of them that was so fantastic, it is often forgotten about slightly in favor ofGTA3andGTA: San Andreas.Vice Cityhad a great story in its own right, and the most memorable moment of the whole game’s story came in the form of the betrayal of Lance Vance.

When that moment comes in the final mission,it leads Tommy Vercettion a path of destruction through the various gunmen of the Forelli family before taking down the traitorous Lance, and then finally gunning down Forelli himself. Often forgotten but one of the strongest narrative moments in anyGTAgame, Keep Your Friends Close is a fantastic ending mission.

GTA4was a fairly serious entry in theGrand Theft Autofranchise, and a lot of fans appreciated thatThe Ballad of Gay TonyDLCwent back to the classic madcap stylewhich madeGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasso appealing. The final mission, Departure Time, made plenty of insane amusement for players.

The final mission begins with Luis having to get rid of the stores of heroin hidden in various duck-shaped bins around the theme park. There are all the classic elements of a finalGTAmission including shoot-outs and chase sequences, but the style of the whole DLC is what helps to make this a truly fantastic ending.

3Grand Theft Auto 4

The main story inGrand Theft Auto 4was another narrative genius one, and the ending is fascinatingly ambiguous because nobody currently knows which of the endings is canon to theGTAUniverse. However, the deal ending which leads to the final mission “A Revenger’s Tragedy” is a particularly wonderful one.

While it has classic final mission elements like plenty of combat and car chases, the real strength of this final mission is in the fantastic narrative. Firstly, Dimitri ends up killing Jimmy, the secondary antagonist, and then Niko has to square off against him in one of the longest car chasesinGTAhistorybefore finally catching up to him.

2Grand Theft Auto 5

There are again multiple choices for the ending toGrand Theft Auto 5. Comparatively, two of the three are relatively plain, but the ending which is known to be canon and is by far the most fun option to take is “the third option”. This mission, instead of involving Franklin trying to kill Michael or Trevor, involves all three working together in a brutal, violence-filled missionto take down Steve Haines.

There is a ton to this mission, featuring all the antagonists and protagonists wrapping up their stories in satisfying ways.It is lengthy for aGTAmission, but the story ofGTA 5deserved to be finished in just such an impressive fashion in a way that sprawls out across the large open world of this game.

1Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The best of the final missions in anyGrand Theft Autogame surely comes inSan Andreas. Known as one of thebest open-world gamesof all time and with good reason,San Andreaspulls out all the stops to a level unseen before or since in theGTAfranchise for just how much is going on all at once.

Rioting on the streets, smashing into buildings with armored cars, and escaping after a massive shootout on a fire truck, End of the Line is one of the very best missions in video game history. The scale and variety couldn’t be matched even by the big-budget follow-ups in the franchise that would follow.
