When these relationships reach a certain level, players can choose to engage in an intimate moment with their lover.

Baldur’s Gate 3sex scenes don’t exactly unlock quickly, and it can be confusing to understand just how to successfully set up a night in the haywith a chosen companion, even once all the requirements are met. Follow this guide to understand the basics of how to build up a relationship with companions, and how to initiate an intimate moment with your lover.
Updated July 24, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: Now that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for about a month and a half, players have had plenty of time to get down and dirty with the many Baldurs Gate 3 sex scenes that can be unlocked. More characters than just companions are romance options in Baldur’s Gate, as it turns out, as players who have reached the game’s later acts have discovered. But committing to romance with one BG3 character often means shutting out others for good, so don’t make the decision of which companion to sleep with lightly. This guide to BG3 romance scenes has been updated to more accurately, and completely, describe the process for earning BG3 sex scenes with companions and other characters.
Relationships Must Be Nurtured To Unlock Sex Scenes
Though there are a handful of exceptions, players must typically progress a relationship past several steps before the choice to engage in a night of fun is unlocked. By talking to companions at the camp during a Long Rest, showing interest in their interests, and respecting their choices and aligning with their beliefs, mostcompanions and other romanceable characterswill become interested in the player’s character.
Some characters only have sex scenes that unlock after several previous steps, like going on a wine and stargazing date with Shadowheart, learning how to manipulate the Weave with Gale, or going out to eat with Karlach in the city of Baldur’s Gate.
Other characters don’t ask much of the player at all – it’s easy to unlock Lae’zel’s first sex scene after saving the Druid Grove just by succeeding in combat and agreeing with her choices and harsh way of going about things. Astarion is another companion who is easy to bed, and constantly seems to be on the prowl for some nighttime pleasures – after players have sided with him several times and learned he is a Vampire by the time of the Act 1 party, the path to unlock the Astarion sex scene will be clear.
Most BG3 Sex Scenes Only Unlock After Much Investment
Sex scenes inBaldur’s Gate 3aren’t nearly as easy to earn and unlock as they were in the Early Access and launch versions of the game. However, it’s far from an insurmountable challenge – really, the only requirement is to improve a relationship with a companion until flirty, romantic-interest dialogue appears when talking to them. This can take anywhere from a few Long Rests to a few Acts, depending on who players want to romance.

For example, to earn Astarion’s sex scene inBaldur’s Gate 3, players have to let him bite them, show no judgment of his vampirism, and generally make decisions he would agree with. By the time that the Druid grove is saved (or destroyed),depending on his attitude towards your character, Astarion’s dialogue should turn sexual during the party.
But the same is true of most companions in the game – by steadily improving relationships inBG3, by completing character quest stages, and by respecting the beliefs and choices of their companions, players can progress romance with most of the available options before the Druid Grove party.
After gauging the interest of a companion (or other character), if they respond positively and consent, it’s on – the next time players go to sleep (usually), they will be able to invite their companion to share a bed for the night. It’s not like there is going to be a lot of sleeping going on, though.
How To Initiate A Sex Scene In Baldur’s Gate 3
Once players have built up a more-than-friends relationship with a companion, and have successfully navigated the dialogue to confirm a mutual desire, there’s only one thing left to do: go to bed. At the Camp, during a Long Rest, players can either click on their bed or the campfire to use resources and end the day. After confirming which supplies you would like to use to fuel the camp, a new dialogue option will pop up, asking players to invite their lover for a bit of romantic one-on-one time – and hopefully initiate one of the manyBaldur’s Gate 3sex scenes.
If players have successfully flirted and established a romantic interest in more than one companion, they have to make a choice between lovers in this dialogue pop up window. Players can’t initiate two different sex scenes with two companions on the same night.
The companion who isn’t selected will still be an option later on, as long as you continue to maintain the relationship, and as long as they don’t harbor ill willtowards your other lover. Some companions don’t have a problem with polyamorous relationships, while others will cut off all thoughts of a sexual relationship with the player if they show romantic affection to others.
Not all romanceable BG3 options will have a sex scene early in the game – in fact, Lae’Zel, Astarion, and Minthara are the only ones whose sex scenes typically unlock before Act 2 without significant effort spent on progressing quests and earning trust. Don’t rush it – many BG3 sex scene options only have one actual explicit romance cutscene, so once players have experienced it, there’s no going back without a save.
Be certain that the companion you have chosen to romance is the one you want to spend the rest of the game with – because even if the relationship eventually breaks and fails, other romantic options may still be completely locked out.
