Summary
OneBaldur’s Gate 3player managed to recreate Triss Merigold fromThe Witcherseries in Larian’s critically acclaimed RPG. Their achievement is yet another example illustrating the incredible versatility of thecharacter creation features inBaldur’s Gate 3.
As a game based on theDungeons and Dragonstabletop,Baldur’s Gate 3goes out of its way to provide fans with plenty of options for granular character design. Apart from the ability tocreate a customBaldur’s Gate 3character, the RPG also allows players to design a Guardian, a mysterious figure who will help them on their adventures, much like their title suggests.

After some fiddling with the game’s many appearance options, Reddit user miniladds-clone managed to turn their Guardian into a fairly faithful recreation of Triss Merigold fromThe Witcherseries. Their character’s red set of hair tied up in a low bun is extremely close to Merigold’s rendition fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as are her piercingly blue eyes and high cheekbones. While many fans reacting to this design feat agreed that the resulting Guardian looks like Triss Merigold, some others opined that she even more closely resembles the human version of Princess Fiona from theShrekfranchise.
The author of this design did not elaborate on their creation process, though it would appear that they used the female Half-Elf template as the starting point for making theirBaldur’s Gate 3version of Triss Merigold. Namely, the face features of the default model for the High Half-Elf subrace are already fairly close to the look of this recently shared Guardian. Half-Elves inBaldur’s Gate 3can also be of the Wood and Drow variety, depending on the player’s lineage preference.
Whilethe Guardian inBaldur’s Gate 3has the same story role regardless of their race, gender, and overall appearance, the majority of the game’s world will react slightly differently to the player’s avatar depending on their identity. The only major exceptions to that are romances, as the player’s choice of a race and gender will not affect their ability to romance any companion. Nevertheless, anyone looking to get the completeBaldur’s Gate 3experience is hence encouraged to do multiple playthroughs with a wide variety of characters.
Newcomers to classic CRPGs based onDungeons and Dragonswould also do well to consider picking one of theOrigin characters for their firstBaldur’s Gate 3playthrough. Doing so will essentially repurpose one of the game’s companions into its protagonist, thus ensuring that the players who aren’t deeply familiar with the RPG’s mechanics aren’t locked into subpar builds from the get-go.
Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC and launches September 6 on PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S port also in development.
