Helm of Balduran is undoubtedly one of the best gear in the game. Moreover, to get it,you just need to reach Act 3and find the correct location. And you don’t even have to trigger any quests.

BG3: How To Get Helm of Balduran
Helm of Balduran lies in the Dragon’s Sanctum under the city of Baldur’s Gate and isguarded by Ansur the dragon. But getting to this item will be quite hard, as players have to complete several challenges. Moreover, the entrance to the location is hidden.
So, first, you need to get to the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress fast travel point and go down toWyrm’s Rock Prisonfrom there. Be careful, as all NPCs may be hostile to you if you save Duke from the Iron Throne. However, you’re able to go after Helm of Balduran before completing the Rescue the Grand Duke quest inBaldur’s Gate 3.

Once in the prison, you need to find a wall with two torches in the shape of dragons. They are located in the left corridor from the entrance. It is the secret entrance to Wyrmway, which will lead you to the Helmet. But to open it, you need to use any lightning scroll or spell on them. Bolts with this damage type will also work.
When both torches light up with a blue flame, you can go through the opened passage. Then, follow the path until you reach a locked door. From there, you can go in 4 directions, each of which will lead you to one of the puzzle chambers. Only after players complete them all will the doors open.

Chamber of Insight
In this chamber, you will find a statue and three illusions. The statue will ask you to find and kill the illusion who betrayed the city. To do this, you can catch flying books, which will tell you about each of the illusions. Or simply use a spell or ranged weapon to kill the illusion called Suelto.
Chamber of Justice
In the second chamber, you have to find the appropriate punishment for the criminal. To do this, you must choose the right picture. But they are all covered in black fog. So, to solve the puzzle, you need to remove the fog usingRemove Curseand then move The Cell painting to an empty niche.
Chamber of Strategy
The third challenge will be chess. To solve this puzzle, players need to checkmate the Purple King. And as with most otherBaldur’s Gate 3puzzles, you have several options:
Chamber of Courage
In the last chamber, you don’t have to solve puzzles but have to survive 4 Turns against various enemies. Since defeating enemies is not the goal, you should focus on surviving and reducing the damage taken. A good strategy is to use the Sanctuary spell before the fight and also use Summons. Once turn 4 ends, all enemies will die, and you will be one step closer to Helm of Balduran inBaldur’s Gate 3.
Beat Ansur the Heart of the Gate
After completing all the trials in the chambers, you will be able to go through the opened doors to the Dragon Sanctum where Ansur is waiting for you. It is your last obstacle before the Helm of Balduran, so you should be prepared.
This undead Dragon is completely immune to Poison and Lightning damage. In addition, it has high resistance to Necrotic damage. At the same time, it will only deal Lightning damage. Therefore, before the battle, you should put on equipment and use spells that will increase resistance to this type of damage for the entire party. Items for hunting dragons, such as Arrows of Dragon-Slaying, may also be useful. When you defeat this boss, you can go further, and pick up the Helm of Balduran on the pedestal.
