As anticipation for the game continues to grow, aBaldur’s Gate 3developer has revealed that “you’re going to start crying” over the difficulty of the game’s Tactician mode. For many,Baldur’s Gate 3is one of themost exciting upcoming RPGsout there, and this will likely be amazing news for hardcore fans of the genre.

Baldur’s Gate 3is the latest iteration in the long-running franchise, releasing over two decades after its predecessor. This time around, the game will be developed by Larian Studios rather than BioWare. After the critical and commercial success of the studio’s last RPG,Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Belgian development studio was seen as the perfect successor to carry the torch and bringBaldur’s Gateto modern audiences. The game has already been in Early Access for almost three years with just the first act playable, but it seems the rest of the game will have plenty of exciting content for players to enjoy. It was even reported recently thatBaldur’s Gate 3has 174 hours worth of cutscenes, which is more than enough for most players.

The difficulty news came from Larian Studios' creative director Swen Vincke at the recent Panel From Hell forBaldur’s Gate 3. The panel showed off a ton of new gameplay, as well as a controversial romance scene involving a bear-form Druid that has had the internet divided over the last few days. Vincke went on to describe the game’s Tactical mode, the hardest difficulty inBaldur’s Gate 3, claiming, “you really need to start getting every single advantage that you’re able to, because otherwise you’re going to get obliterated… I know you’re all badass, I know you’re all going to play on Tactician because you can handle it, and then you’re going to start crying, and then you’re going to say the game is bad. It’s not our fault - it’s you!”

At the moment,Baldur’s Gate 3is being described as the closest a video game can get to an authenticDungeons and Dragonsexperience, so no doubt that news of the game’s difficulty will be a hit with RPG fans. It will be fun to see how it lives up to those high expectations, and with just under a month until release, gamers don’t have too much longer to wait to find out.

The panel itself brought about a ton of new information aboutBaldur’s Gate 3that remained a mystery, even to Early Access players. One of the biggest pieces of news was thatBaldur’s Gate 3will allow players to respec their charactersmid-game, which in such a long game will come as a relief to players.

It’s interesting to see the hype forBaldur’s Gate 3swiftly build as the game draws nearer to release. Just a few weeks ago, Larian Studiosbumped the release date ofBaldur’s Gate 3up a monthon PC to avoid the likes ofStarfield, a move which has only intensified the general excitement of the community. The wait goes on for Xbox Series X/S players, with no further updates on a release on the platform recently. As per the last update, the developer is currently unable to get the game optimized into a releasable state on the platform, but hopefully it isn’t too long before Larian Studios is able to get over that hurdle.

Baldur’s Gate 3is coming to PC on August 3 and PS5 on September 6. An Xbox Series X/S version is in development.
