The Best Eldritch Invocations
The player has many options to go over, and each invocation can be useful in the right situation. However, these specifically trump the rest for their incredible usefulness and versatility.
Mire The Mind
Mire the Mind will allow the player to use Slow, which is described in the game as:“Alter time around up to 6 enemies to Slow them. They won’t get far, they can’t do much, and they’re easier to hit.”
Making use of this, the player can significantly affect an enemy’s movement speed, their Armor Class, and their dexterity saving throws. It is available starting level 5.
Dreadful Word
Dreadful Word will grant the player Confusion. Confusion is described in the game as:“Befuddle a group of creatures, causing them to attack at random, wander around aimlessly, and occasionally skip turns in the stupor.”
The effects of this are straightforward and it allows the player to render the enemy, more or less, useless against them during their turns. The player is able to learn this invocation at level 7.
Book of Ancient Secrets
This is a passive Eldritch Invocation. It allows the player to learn magic rituals by inscribing them into the Book Of Shadows. To get the Book of Shadows, in the first place, the player must make the Pact of the Tome. Their patron will then grant them the book.
The Book of Ancient Secrets makes it possible to learn even more spells, such asRay of Sickness,Chromatic Orb, and Silence. The player will be able to unlock this featureat level 7 as a Warlock.
Life Drinker
This is a very late game Eldritch Invocation that the player will be able to unlock only at level 12 Warlock, meaning to get Life Drinker, the player can’t Multiclasstheir Warlock.
This powerful invocation will allow the player to deal extra necrotic damage when using melee attacks. The damage dealt is decided by the charisma modifier. This is amazing for any Warlock as their primary ability is Charisma, which will lead to some heavy damage. The player can amplify the effect even more by equipping items that increase a character’s charisma.
Fiendish Vigour
This feature will allow the player to cast False Life. False Life is described in the game as:“Bolster yourself with necromantic facsimile of life to gain 7 temporary hit points.”
This abilitywill allow a Warlock to tank more attacksand guarantee a higher chance of survival. The Warlock can use it only as a 1st level spell, and its efficiency doesn’t increase with level. This feature can be unlocked early on, at level 2.
Minions Of Chaos
With the Eldritch invocation Minions of Chaos, the player is able to cast Conjure Elemental by making use of a Warlock spell slot.
Conjure Elemental is described as follows by the game:“Bend the barrier between the planes until they disgorge an element ally to follow and fight for you.”
This will allow the player to conjure a Myrmidon from one of the following elements: Fire, Water, Earth, or Air. Each Myrmidon has their own unique abilities. This invocation can only be unlocked at level 9.
Repelling Blast exists to amplify the player’sEldritch Blast, which is a deadly cantripthat deals 1d10 damageto enemies; at higher levels, the player can even cast 2 and 3 beams.
Eldritch Blast is perhaps one of the most useful tricks a Warlock can have. With Repelling Blast, the player can, in addition to the damage dealt by the cantrip, push the enemies back up to 4.5 meters, or 15 feet.
Just like Repelling Blast, Agonizing Blast doesn’t do much on its own, however, when the player decides to cast Eldritch Blast after using Agonizing Blast, the player will get a heavy bonus.
Indeed, Agonizing Blast will allow the player to add their charisma modifier to the damage dealt by Eldritch Blast. The player will be able to gain access to this feature very early on, as it is unlockable at level 2.
Baldur’s Gate 3is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
