Summary

Ubisoft started rolling out theAssassin’s Creed Mirageupdate 1.0.4. This is the second patch for the latest franchise entry sinceAssassin’s Creed Miragereleased to largely positive reviewson October 5.

The day-one version of the game was bundled with the 1.0.2 update, which introduced a wide array of bug fixes and performance improvements. Ubisoft soon followed up on that release with the 1.0.3 patch that addressed some audio glitches and UIissues inAssassin’s Creed Mirage.

The 1.0.4 update appears to be the game’s most modest patch to date. While it weighs nearly 3.5GB, its changelog mentions just a single fix, revealing that the developers eliminated an issue that could have caused cinematics not to play properly. The problem was apparently not affecting PC players, as the 1.0.4 patch notes outright state that this fix is only rolling out tothe console versions ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage. And while launchingMirageon PC will see players greeted with the 1.0.4 version number in the bottom-left corner of the screen, clicking on the patch notes prompt will bring up the same 1.0.2 changelog that’s been in the game since release.

Several fans discussing the new update on Reddit suggested that the patch improved console performance, but those claims weren’t met with universal agreement. On the contrary, a number of players complained about a worse experience while running the 1.0.4 version ofAssassin’s Creed Miragein Performance mode, both in regard to frame rate and screen tearing. Those reports have so far only come from PS5 players, one of whom even claimed that restarting Sony’s console eliminated screen tearing.

The newly released patch does nothing to address theAssassin’s Creed Miragechromatic aberration grievancesthat some players raised since the game’s release. As a reminder, a vocal segment of the fandom previously bemoaned Ubisoft Bordeaux’s aggressive usage of this image distortion effect that adds blurred color lines along object edges, positing that the studio’s stylistic choice ruins the game’s visuals. Similar complaints were also directed atMirage’s use of motion blur, albeit to a lesser extent.

Ubisoft already confirmed that its developers are working on addressing the chromatic aberration criticism with a toggle that allows players to disable the polarizing effect. The setting is planned to roll out in one of the game’s future updates, the company said on October 12. Ubisoft has yet to give any indication that it plans to extend this treatment to the motion blur complaints directed at the latestAssassin’s Creedtitle.

Assassin’s Creed Mirageis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. An iPhone 15 Pro port is slated for early 2024.
