Anyone that pre-orders the game gets early access to theModern Warfare 3campaign. Unfortunately, the reaction to theModern Warfare 3campaignhas been largely negative. Fans have complained about the campaign’s short length, the fact that it reuses assets fromWarzone, and how it has little in the way of truly new ideas for the franchise. But since the 2023 version ofModern Warfare 3has yet to actually release, fans are unable to air their grievances on review aggregate sites like they are known to do. So instead, they have decided to review bomb the Metacritic pages of the 2011 original.
Right now, the 2011Modern Warfare 3game has an88 overall critic rating compared to an abysmal 3.6 user rating. It’s unclear if these disgruntled fans are mistaking the twoModern Warfare 3games or if they simply couldn’t wait for the 2023 game to launch to post their negative reviews. In the meantime, someCall of Dutyfans have started adding their own overwhelmingly positive reviews of the2011Modern Warfare 3gamein an attempt to counter the review bombing.
While the games share a name and some of the same characters, the two versions ofModern Warfare 3couldn’t be any more different. The 2011Modern Warfare 3was released at a time beforeCall of Dutygames were stuffed full of microtransactions, giving gamers a truly complete experience out of the box. The 2011 game also had a campaign that was generally well-received by fans and critics alike, whereas the2023Modern Warfare 3campaign has been widely criticized.
As far as multiplayer goes, the 2011Modern Warfare 3multiplayer had original maps that were built from the ground-up for the game. The2023Modern Warfare 3multiplayer maps are all remakesof maps that were featured in the 2009Modern Warfare 2. 2023Modern Warfare 3has an open world Zombies mode that could be good, but is currently unproven, whileMW3offered a Survival mode on top of Spec Ops missions. Considering this, it’s somewhat unfair that the 2011MW3is getting targeted because of the problems with the new game, but review bombers will likely turn their attention to the proper game this weekend.
