WhenAll Elite Wrestlingfirst formed, it featured Cody Rhodes, Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega as its executive vice presidents and top stars. Cody Rhodes has been one of the most frequently featured stars sinceAEW’s formation in 2019, but now, three years later, it seems as though both Cody and his wife Brandi are leaving the promotion.

This is according to statements released by AEW,Cody Rhodes, and Brandi Rhodes. According to the statements, it seems that the split is amicable. In the official AEW statement, CEO Tony Khan praised the contributions of both Cody and Brandi, saying that he has “immense respect and appreciation” for them. Similar sentiments can be found in the statements from Cody and Brandi, who thanked the fans and the talent that they worked with during their time at the company.

With Cody and Brandi Rhodes having been such a big part of AEW since its formation, their departure may come as a shock to fans. After all, Cody just dropped the TNT Championship toSammy Guevarain a critically-acclaimed ladder match earlier this month, while Brandi is leaving while in the midst of an unresolved feud with AEW villain Dan Lambert.

It’s unclear what will happen with some of the loose story threads moving forward. It’s also unclear what this means for Cody and Brandi Rhodes. Cody has shown an interest in projects outside of professional wrestling, so it’s possible he will pursue those. On the other hand, maybe Cody and Brandi will find themselves in another wrestling promotion soon. It would generate quite a bit of buzz if Cody were to suddenly appear onWWEtelevision, for example.

Of course, with this being professional wrestling, it’s always possible that this is merely an attempt to trick the fans. After all, Cody’s current storyline already blurs the lines between “kayfabe” and reality, with Rhodes giving promos where he seemingly refuses to turn heel despite being heavily booed by the fans. While the statements look official enough, it wouldn’t be unprecedented for something like this to be used as a way to surprise fans with a return later on.

In the meantime, it’s unclear what this means for theAEW video game. While the AEW video game may still take some time to come out, it would be odd for Cody Rhodes not to be a part of the roster, especially since he’s been regularly featured on AEW TV for the past three years. Fans will just have to take a wait and see approach on that front.
