The director of the recently releasedAdvance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camphas listed classic Nintendo franchises that he’d like to work on reviving. After several delays and unfortunate timing with real-world events,Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Campfinally released in late April 2023. It received positive reviews for successfully bringingAdvance Warsto the Switch. With this project completed, one might wonder what developer Wayforward could work on next.Wayforward is a well-known developer and publisher, having been around sincethe first Game Boy console. The most famous of its properties is theShantaeseries of games, but it has been rather busy in the last few years with several collaborations. This includesRiver City Girls 2andRWBY: Arrowfellwith Arc System Works, and with Nintendo to remake the aforementionedAdvance Warsduology. The director of the remake, James Montagna, recently commented on what Nintendo property he’d like to work on next.RELATED:Rumor: Konami and Wayforward Could Be Teaming Up for New ContraIn an interview between the director and Ben Hanson of the MinnMax Show, Montagna was asked about the top five Nintendo franchises he’d like to work on. Much to Hanson’s surprise, the “number one” pick for Montagna would beKururin, a rather obscure series of puzzle games that originated on the Game Boy Advance. The first game,Kuru Kuru Kururin, wasadded to the launch of the GBA library on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Hanson was surprised thatZeldaorMarioweren’t up there, to which Montagna replies that the mainline games are already so well done that he’d prefer working on something more obscure. Montagna then lists some other games that he was a big fan of that’d he like to try his hand in, such asRhythm Heaven,WarioWare, and eventheChibi-Roboseries, which he thinks would be interesting to explore. Hanson then notes that Nintendo “has his number” if it ever wanted to contact him about such a project, to which Montagna laughs, stating that he has a good working relationship with the publisher.
